How many words do you read a day?

Ever thought about that?

It’s insane to think about the amount of words and content our brain is constantly being bombarded with.

95% of it is simply ignored.

See if you can relate to this.

Start scrolling the internet while we’re in the toilet, swiping away most of it and by the time we’re leaving with our phone in one hand and our pants in the other, no words were even read.

It’s like a stress relief at this point.

Like smoking a cigarette while gossiping about how jews will dominate the world.

You know … just another Tuesday.

It’s quick, easy and suitable for the occasion.

Although this routine might seem very appealing, we’re the writers.

We make money typing words.

We want the scrollers to instantly be intrigued and eager just by reading the title.

Because if they’re not triggered, they’ll never read past the title. That’s bad news for us.

Our goal is to make them WANT to read it.

How do we achieve that?

Let’s learn how to grab your reader’s attention and keep them glued to the screen.

Attention Is The New Currency

If the beginning fails, there’s no end.

If you sell pipes and Mike Tyson is your highschool friend I would quickly speak with him.

Fail to understand this concept and your business will fail.

Does it make sense for Mike Tyson to sell pipes? Sure he delivered some ‘pipes’ back in the day, but it has no connection right?

No.

Put the name Mike Tyson in your next piece of text and see how it performs against your regulars.

Give Mike Tyson a Disney World membership and he would instantly sell out the place.

Mike Tyson could sell you anything. He doesn't even have to do the pitch.

Why does this happen? Wouldn’t people lose confidence in the business?

Let me show you why attention will make you rich enough to meet Mike Tyson.

A Good Hook Is Not Only For Boxing

What does a hook have to do with attention and making money?

Will you have to punch people to be rich and famous?

You could. But no.

Instead.

Learn how to hook your viewers like white hooked Mike.

So what is a hook?

The purpose of a hook is to grab attention and give your reader a reason to invest their time and energy into your writing.

We can then conclude that you could write a world class level text, but if your hook is bad it doesn’t matter because they will not pass the initial words.

Think of it like fishing. How are you going to eat the fish if you don’t have a hook?

First you lure them in with a juicy paragraph. Then you grab their attention.

How To Make Readers Crave

Coming up with good hook ideas is like trying to explain how money is printed to your grandma. It’s hard.

However, if you master this technique you will be able to enter any conversation. Sell anything and keep your viewers glued to the screen.

All of us are humans. We have emotions.

Hooking someone is all about emotionally involving them in what you are trying to communicate.

Do this and do it fast, if you take too long to hook them, you’re done.

For example, you can start with a personal story or write about someone that the reader will instantly emotionally connect with, for example: Mike Tyson.

Watching Mike Tyson fight is like doing 26 backflips in a row while balancing a glass of red wine in your hand. The man’s intense.

Not only that, the fight was over within 5 seconds. Perfect hook timing.

Doesn't matter what the emotion is. As long as you don’t insult the reader you’re good.

Make them feel something, keep them connected.

Leave your reader with questions.

Whether you write about action, emotion, a story or an article you have to force them to ask questions.

Why is he saying this? Where does this lead to? How am I not doing this if it works for him?

Have your reader guess about what’s coming next. This is the key to keep them reading.

Titles Are In Constant Endless Competition

Alright. Now we have the fish on the hook.

Let’s catch it.

Eight seconds. That’s the average human attention span today.

Your article is in constant competition with other articles.

Like the UFC main cards, all of the articles out there fight to compete for the best battle.

Why do people wanna watch a certain fighter rather than others?

Attention.

Everything revolves around attention. Your title must win the fight against the other trillion other titles.

This is why it’s very important to take this task very seriously.

Here are some examples of lame titles:

“The best tips and tricks to get your reader’s attention”

“Why Attention is the most important skill in 2024”

See how boring that is.

Does not trigger you. Emotionless.

People have read so many titles. Scrolled so many posts. Seen so many ads.

It’s incredible how they can immediately smell lame articles.

So let’s fix these titles:

“The best tips and tricks to get your reader’s attention”

Boring and Lame.

“Turning Attention Into Easy Money”

Simple and Intriguing.

Everyone likes easy money.

Grab. Hook. Catch.

Give them the result right away, without revealing the secret.

Next one:

“Why Attention is the most important skill in 2024”

Cliché. I’ve read this a million times before. Not clicking.

Let’s apply what we learned.

“Mike Tyson Reveals Attention Secrets”

Interesting.

Using a famous name will help you to get people interested.

That being said, leverage the name but don’t make it the highlight.

Just because you have Mike’s name doesn't mean you don’t put in the effort.

All the parts have to flow from one to the other with ease.

From the title to the hook, to the first paragraph and so on.

This is like inviting Mike to an event, advertising his presence to sell tickets and the event being held in a 20 by 20 room with a toiled and a dj playing kizomba.

Not good.

We’re competing with the world. Let’s put in the work and be competent.

Connect with people.

Let’s make them NEED our words.

Write good articles.
